HERPING OVERVIEW

August is normally dry season in western Ecuador, however, this year might be different due to the anticipated El Niño so unusual herps might turn up. We will explore the cloud forests of Mindo and the heart of the Ecuadorian Chocó.

A short drive from the Quito airport and we will reach Mindo for the first night. Our main targets will be Bothrops osbornei and any endemic snake species from the western cloudforests of Ecuador.

A slightly longer travel day will take us to the heart of the Ecuadorian Chocó where will spend 4 nights at a very comfortable lodge exploring their expansive trail network to search for iconic lowland species.
